Traversed the scene of the battle field of SIDI REZEGH – what a shambles! – a striking testimony of the terrible toll of war. Arrived at SIDI REZEGH in the morning but found no squadron. Dr Venn was at hand and informed us that the Squadron was stationed at BU AMUD? So we went on our way and at midday arrived at our new "home" – Just another expanse of wasteland – a little less cheerless than O.76 but no O.21!
Another abortive show no sufficient cloud cover so the aircraft returned to base.
A raid was carried out against enemy positions in the Western portion of ORSOGNA during the morning. The leading box hit the target well; the second box overshot causing their bombs to fall between the road and the Railway. The aircraft arrived back at 11.55 hours.
Sortie Report No. 491.
In the afternoon the Adjutant General, General Beyers accompanied by Brigadier Hingeston, visited the Squadron.
Eleven Marauders were airborne from Iesi Landing Ground at 12.50 hours led by Lieut. Brunette to bomb Engine Sheds at TREVISO Marshalling Yards. No. 2 Box consisting of six aircraft was 30 minutes late at rendezvous (owing to a reshuffling of aircraft and leader was unable to contact his box satisfactorily on R/T) and returned at 14.43 hours after jettisoning bomb load at sea. Leading box of five aircraft, with a close escort of six Mustangs also carrying bombs, attacked from 11,200 feet. Pattern fell slightly to the left of the Engine Sheds and straddled Railway line with direct hits on houses, railroad trucks and tracks. Heavy, ack-ack, slight, inaccurate, when crossing coast on way to the target, near mouth of the PIAVE River; no enemy opposition in target area. All aircraft landed at base by 15.35 hours.
