Aircraft were off the ground early in the morning conveying aircrews to the new drome. The main convoy joined by those of 12 and 11 squadrons commenced on their trek across the desert before noon. During the whole course of the day we were pursued by howling sandstorms and visibility at times was zero. At the night stop we were entertained with heavy gunfire from the direction of BARDIA and HALFAYA.
A minor stir has been created by accusations that the troops in this vicinity are responsible for one incident of rape and the shooting of two Senussi. As direct evidence in both matters is not forthcoming and nobodies can be produced, it is more than probable that the stories emanated from fifth columnists among the Senussi, most of whom are friendly at present. O. C. No. 3 S.A. Wing has instructed, however, that all firearms and explosives, not on issue, be withdrawn from Officers and other ranks.
The weather was poor and no operations were undertaken during this period. Two popular Officers, Lieut. Perkins and Lieut. van Rooyen, having completed their operational tour left the Squadron for BARI en route to the Union.
