The camp was practically deserted after nine am today, all the holiday-makers having departed, most of them for Palestine and Syria. We are all certainly being provided with opportunities of travel and sightseeing which might not have been ours but for this war.
The O.C., Adj., Cypher Officer, Engineer Officer and the inevitable "Japie” had also decided on a holiday for jaded nerves, and, leaving Capt. Fogarty in charge of the camp, they left, in another whirling dust-storm for a trip through the countries mentioned—they will certainly find the break welcome!

January 29, 1943
Chel II

A miserably cold day – quite the worst we have experienced in the desert. The Commanding Officer, accompanying the Wing Commander, flew to CASTEL BENITO to attend a conference there called by the A.O.C., W. D.
The pilots and aircraft sent to SOLUCH for night-flying training returned. The pilots have all successfully completed the course and there have been no "prangs". This has also been the case in connection with the night operations carried out by the Squadron from this landing ground.

Tortorella, Italy

A raid was carried out on the Chemical Factory at POPOLI to-day. The leading box identified the target and released their bombs but the second box found it necessary to make a second run up. Some incendiaries undershot badly but hits were obtained on buildings which were set on fire.
