18 Marauders took off from Pescara during the day to attack two gun areas 6 miles and 10 miles respectively S.W. from. Pesaro. Subsequent photographic results showed the target well covered with bomb bursts. All three formations encountered heavy ack-ack (moderate to slight) over target, six of the twelve aircraft sustaining slight damage.
The next two formations of three aircraft each attacked a triangular area about 1,000 yards long with its centre R.975743. The first Vic straddled target area through centre. Pattern of last Vic commenced in extreme Western portion of target and ran out across a main road and river into open country. No enemy opposition and last aircraft down at 17.45 hours. Major RAUTENBACH went on leave to Rome accompanied by Capt. van VUUREN. Major Jimmy has put in a great deal of work and was literally "clapped". Capt. L.R. ALEXANDER assumed duties as Adjutant during his absence.
