The Lodestar was a wee bit late owing to engine trouble but the eight fellows were on their way before 0900 hrs. The news seems to be that the ten aircraft which were to be flown to NAKURU are now to be flown back to KASFAREET!! The boys are naturally disappointed with their visions of the Union and home receding.
No. 55 Squadron crashed another Baltimore this morning on the 'drome and wrote it completely off. Luckily there was no observer in the nose or else there might have been serious injury. As it was, no one was injured at all.
News was received via the returning post truck that the Union Mail was 72 hours late. The situation up forward seems to be deteriorating and the squadrons are on their way backwards. Personnel of 223 Squadron arrived in the afternoon and were made as comfortable as possible. All being accommodated between ourselves and 15 Squadron.
A very successful party was held in the officers mess the excuse being the celebration of the anniversary of Russia’s entry into the War. The squadron orchestra gave a good account of themselves and everything went “as merry as a marriage bell”.
