L.G. 98

Tonight is the night as far as the sergeants are concerned for their Mess Dance is being held in ALEX. tonight. The Squadron Orchestra is performing and the affair should be a huge success judging by the amount of labour expended particularly by Sergts. “Nobby” CLARKE and van SCHAIK. Capt. FOGARTY, our Engineering officer and Lt. VIVIAN our Signals officer left this morning as the fore-runners of the technical staff to assist in ferrying up the aircraft from the Union. The O.C. The Adj Major BARNBY and Lts. NEWMAN and FRIEDMAN (on loan for the night from le Caire) were guests at the Dance given by the Sergeants Mess. The function was a great success. The majority of the partners were from South African Hospitals in the neighbourhood of ALEX. and one and all enjoyed themselves immensely.
The music provided by Holly WHITE and his “21 Silly Sandboys” was excellent and despite the stifling heat the “tripping of the light fantastic” was enjoyed by one and all. The catering was also first class and the organisers should be congratulated on putting on a show well up to “21” standard.
