L.G. 98

Another hot day and with the flies assuming the proportions of a major plague. There was quite a spot of excitement this afternoon when one of the marquee tents, housing the N.C.O’s in the Malta crews was burned to the ground in a matter of seconds! The fire-tender was on the spot in a few seconds was helpless save to extinguish the flames after the edifice had burned down. There is no doubt but that in the extreme heat there is great danger of fire but the finest fire fighting appliances in the world are helpless against fires in tentage where once the flames get hold of the canvas it is all over.
Another party in the officers mess this evening attended by several officers from 55 Squadron our next door neighbours.
