L.G. 98

The first of the series of "Information" lectures was given in the Sergeants' Mess this afternoon by the Information Officer who called on us a few days previously – Lieut. E. Chadwick. The subject of his lecture – "Communism to-day" – awoke considerable interest and discussion among his listeners. At the conclusion of the lecture, the suggestion was made that a debating society might be formed in the squadron, as a means of providing relief to incipient boredom occasioned by lack of mental exercise.
Under the chairmanship of the Adjutant, Major O'Brien a committee was formed. After some discussion it was thought that a debating society on the lines of the Cape Parliamentary Debating Society would be the most suitable and "party leaders" were appointed to formulate the policies of the three "parties" which were to function in the 21 Squadron "Parliament". After further discussion “Election Night” when the party leaders were to propound the policies of their respective parties was set down for March 16.
