March 1, 1942

L.G. 98

Coinciding with the start of the new month, our Sergeant's Mess celebrated the official opening of their canteen, lavishly styled "Pub de la Sarge". The occasion was also marked by a farewell dinner to a number of squadron stalwarts among the gunners, who were returning to the Union on the morrow. The Officer Commanding, the Adjutant and Flight Commanders attended and to the Sergeants went the honours of inveigling Lt. Col. Irvine, the O.C., into his first "public speech" since joining the squadron.
As appears to be the case in most Units of the U.D.F., our sergeants have been well in the forefront in “organising” their mess along the right lines and comfortable sofas, cunningly devised with the aid of sandbags and stray motorcar seats, are among the amenities of the canteen.
