L.G. 021

We were given our first long-range objective today when nine machines, led by Major Stewart, set out for BENGHASI. They were to refuel at 075 landing ground before continuing on to their objective but owing to the rough nature of the landing field, three machines suffered broken tail wheels and were not able to continue on to BENGHASI.
The remaining six machines reached their objective well behind scheduled time owing to the inadequate refuelling arrangements at 075 but released their bombs over the target area without interference. Only three of the original nine machines that set out returned late this afternoon the balance having landed at points along the route owing to lack of petrol, besides the three machines which were awaiting fitting of tail wheels at 0.75.
