Our thirteenth operation was carried out today without mishap when another nine machines participated in an early raid on DERNA Landing ground. Cloudy skies militated against accurate observation but hits were scored in the target area and some excitement was caused by reports that three ships had been observed in DERNA harbour. Examination of photographs taken (most of which revealed beautiful cloud effects!) showed however that these ships were wrecks.

L.G. 98

A parade of 3 S.A. Wing, B.G.M.C. and Nos. 12, 24 and 21 Squadrons was held at the wind-sock on L.G. 98 to meet Air Vice Marshal Lord TRENCHARD. He broke up the hollow square, pretended not to see the loudspeakers and got everyone to gather round for a very interesting address on the part being played by the light bomber squadrons, with particular reference to the part of the South African Squadrons in the M.E.

Convoy

The convoy pulled out at 08.00 Hrs. and travelled for about sixty miles before halting at a parking area near the coast; everyone took the opportunity of bathing in the sea and thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.Travelling was slow and difficult through the mountains, but the magnificent scenery compensated for this and made a deep impression on all.
