Our aerodrome was today visited by a "Stuka” dive-bomber, but fortunately the visit was a friendly one - this JU87 was a captured machine which was being flown to HELIOPOLIS.
The Stuka, in company with two Hurricanes which were acting as escorts, dropped in to refuel and after a brief stay and "aerial display” as they circled the 'drome, they departed. Much interest had been shown by our flying personnel as well as ground staff in this opportunity of studying an enemy aircraft at close quarters.
Instructions received from No. 3 S.A. Wing that only six aircraft are required at L.G.98 at present, three of which are to be on stand-by daily with 12 and 24 Squadrons. The remainder are to return to B.L.G. No operational flying today.
A meeting of Squadron Adjutants was held at Wing Headquarters, to discuss new arrangements for moving the Squadrons to the Mainland. Instructions were issued to the effect that only the heavy vehicles and tractors would move by sea, the remainder going by road.
