We have been reliably misinformed! Current rumour had it that we could expect the first of our Baltimore aircraft to-day but these have not shown up as yet nor has any advice been received, officially, as to any movements of our long awaited aircraft.
An early air raid alarm this evening betokened a visit to the canal area by Jerry but beyond some distant flashes which might have been anything, there was no indication of any heavy raid in our neighbourhood.

Hal Far, Malta

A formation of 12 Baltimores led by Major JANDRELL took off at 1430 Hrs to attack PATERNO town SICILY. Bombs burst on N.E. corner of the village. A.A. slight and inaccurate. First raid by squadron on overseas tour.

Rear Party
Arrangements were made to receive an American Concert Party which was going to give a show in the evening. An Observer Lt. WALTERS reported for duty from CASTEL BENITO.
Late in the afternoon news was received that the American Concert Party was prevented by unforeseen circumstances from giving the show and a cinema show was given by the Americans instead.

Pescara, Italy

Col. VILJOEN visited the Squadron in the course of his tour of inspection. He was entertained to tea in the Adjutant’s gharry by the O.C. He enquired as to whether this Squadron had any moans. What a question ! Why it is the one privilege one has in the Service. However, there were no moans of major importance and it is presumed that he left the Squadron, feeling
as we feel, that all is well within. Another air raid alarm at 22.40 hours, all clear 10 minutes later. This sort of thing is becoming rather monotonous. Capt. HAMLET, Lt. de KOCK, 2/Lts BOYCE, DORE & de JAGER reported for duty.
