The facilities afforded us in this part of the world, enabling us to escape boredom, also make us forget temporarily that there is a war on, but there is always a very large gathering about the wireless sets in the different messes to listen, discuss and criticise the day's news at night.
Lt. Col. IRVINE, who informed us of the latest news in respect of the air situation up forward returned to L.G. 99.

Six Baltimores took off at intervals of three minutes to bomb SCIACCA Landing Ground, SICILY. The target was lit up by flares and bombs fell in the target area. A.A. spasmodic and inaccurate. First dark night operation by the Squadron.

Air Vice Marshall Conningham paid the Squadron an informal visit.

Heavy rain fell last night which rendered the runway U/s for quite a few hours. Stand-down for the day. At 22.30 hours an air raid alarm sounded; no enemy aircraft seen or heard.
