Syd DAVIS, Bruce CUMMING and Roger MARTIN left Union-wards this morning. The mess is already beginning to look empty with the absence of all the well known faces.
The new pilots are all getting their circuits and bumps in the Baltimore and soon will be well away and flying like old campaigners!!
News was received this afternoon of the commissioning of “Sandy” SANDILANDS and “Weffie” TE WATER POHL, two of our old Air Gunners. Their popularity was well shown by the dual party one in the Sergeants Mess and the other in the Officers Mess and before the night was out it is doubtful whether the two of them knew where they were. It is a jolly good show and both of them deserve their “pips” and have well earned them.
There appeared to be somewhat of a “mixup” in the squadrons' mails from CAIRO but by means of a smart interception by the dispatch rider the lorry of No. 24 Squadron was brought into camp and our mails found on board and later when our truck returned the mails of 24 squadron were found to be there!!
The squadron “armoured” truck is now in commission with its trained crew who do duty work about.
No operations to-day. Nothing of importance to report. Squadron Routine Orders Nos. 57/44 & 58/44.
