News received today that Lieut NEWMAN. our popular “Quarter-bloke” And ex-cypher officer was to be transferred to Headquarters as Staff Legal Officer. The squadron owes much to the efficiency of this officer. Starting from scratch, with no knowledge of Q matters he succeeded in re-equipping this squadron in a most satisfactory fashion. He has been a tower of strength in assisting with “extra mural” functions and the concert party will be the poorer with the departure of their stage manager cum producer. Lieut. NEWMAN is a barrister in civil life and will doubtless find himself at home in his new job.‍

12 Baltimores led by Lt.Col COPPEN raided Gun position No.4A & 5 on PANTELLERIA Island. No. 1 box attacked No. 5 position and straddled the Western half of the target a few bombs fell in the sea West of the target.No. 2 box attacked Gun position No. 4A and straddled the target area. No A.A.seen. The invasion fleets seen on way out and back from target.

PANTELLERIA Island surrendered. Landmark in the history of military aviation this being the first time an enemy base has been reduced to surrender by air bombardment.
