Two Glen Martin “Marylands” delivered to Nairobi ex Union. These with one already at Nairobi formed the first three aircraft of the Squadron’s equipment.
We are reduced to one aircraft to operate with, one having had to be surrendered to Ballah Training centre and two being at KASFAREET for engine change. It's a bit of a handicap trying to train a squadron full of keen and enthusiastic pilots on one Baltimore. The training of the MALTA crews is progressing slowly without any fireworks.
Another week end in prospect and Alex. beckons all who can be spared to the attractions of the sea or the squash court or the Royal sport of Kings at which latter quite a few of our boys have lost their "shirts"!
Major BARNBY, Capt. Van HEERDEN, Lt. SANDILANDS, Lt. EVANS left this morning for CAIRO en route for the Union. Lt. NOCKNELL posted to CASTEL BENITO, he also left today. Instructions received that the Squadron is to move to SOLIMAN on the 1st June, 1943. A meeting of heads of sections was held in the Adjutant’s van to discuss the move. The camp had to be broken down, lorries loaded by tomorrow night and ready to move off at first light the following day. The C.O. and Adjutant flew to SOLIMAN this afternoon to lay out the camp. A combined concert was given by the Squadron and 21st American Engineers and it was a most delightful show.
