The everyday summer heat has now obtained a most active ally – the common or garden fly – and are they common! Life is scarcely worth living save under a well protected mosquito net or in semi-darkness. The usual Sunday morning church service was held in the Officers Mess. As many airmen as could be spared were allowed to proceed to Alex. To spend the day on the seaside and obtain some temporary relief at least from the heat.

El Djem

The Commanding Officer flew the following Officers to CASTEL BENITO, who have been posted R.T.U.:– Lieuts. SASS, CARR, SMITH, POCOCK, LIDDIARD and CHISHOLM Capt. van VUUREN "T" Stores arrived with the C.O., on his return from CASTEL BENITO, he is replacing Capt. van HEERDEN, who is also due for R.T.U. News was received that F/Sgts BERNITZ and CLACK are P.O.W.’s, they were reported missing on the 26th of March, 1943. It is now known that three members of the crew are P.O.W.’s nothing further has been heard of Lt. MURRAY, the pilot.
